Phuket Mining Museum or Kathu Mining Museum was worked with strange loftiness in an exceptionally remote and confined area behind the Loch Palm Golf Club of Kathu, some place in the slopes before Patong. Housed in an amazing Sino-Portuguese chateau the Phuket Mining Museum commends the historical backdrop of tin mining on Phuket. Tin mining was the principle business on the island for at any rate a large portion of a century starting around the turn of the twentieth century and the mines pulled in a huge number of Chinese workers who in the long run settled on the island, making the current social and ethnic blend that is so predominant around the island, particularly in Phuket Town. It is this that is praised at the Phuket Mining Museum, which is currently open – kind of – in the farmland amidst the island. Despite the fact that the exhibition hall has not yet got its official opening, and parts, for example, the amphitheater and the encompassing greenhouses, have yet to be finished, the staff welcome guests, and there is bounty to see, with a large portion of the signage being in both Thai and English.
